Benefits of Learning the Flute or Recorder

There are numerous benefits in learning to play the flute and that goes for any age group above five years.

For children, a musical education is hugely beneficial in their over all development.

However for people of any age, when they learn an instrument such as a flute, they are developing skills in;

1. Motor co-ordination.
2. Concentration.
3. Creative Development.
4. Listening.
5. Team Work.

Flute playing also enhances personal skills and development in the following ways;

6. It greatly helps to build confidence and self-esteem.
7. It is a means of self- expression.
8. When playing in groups, it offers a portal for socialising.
9. Flute playing helps to develop good habits with breathing.
10. It greatly assists in developing of good postural habits.
11. Playing is also a great way to 'de-stress' and relax.
12. As a recreation or hobby, flute playing is a very healthy,
enjoyable and beneficial instrument to learn.

Personally I can find so many reasons why learning to play the flute or recorder is a good thing, not only are all of the above points positives in our lives and capable of enhancing our ability to live and move in the world but there are also other benefits like;

13. Portability, it is so very easy to handle and carry around and even travel with a flute, and many instruments do not offer this kind of flexibility. Many pose huge challenges for musicians, but with a flute, well, you can take it just about anywhere easily and safely.

14. This is also an affordable instrument as well as being widely available as a second hand item if one prefers to try out before committing to a new flute.

15. As for a recorder, this small instrument is affordable for just about everyone, and all of the above points are applicable in terms of benefits in learning to play, but with some added advantages which we will address in another post.

16. Quite aside of all of the above very relevant advantages of learning to play the flute, first and foremost, although we are adding this at the end of this post, is the sheer appeal of the sound of a flute, can anyone argue with this?

The sound of the flute is a universal language that directly touches the heart and opens the mind, and what could be more important than this...?

Why hesitate any longer, there is nothing to prevent anyone of picking up one or other of these instruments today and embarking on their own flute and musical adventure and I am here to guide you, every step of the way.
