There are several reasons why learning to play a flute may be a good choice, but at the end of the day it will rest on your personal preference and what ever factors are going to make it more doable for you personally.
However, having said that, there are a few things that you might keep in mind when deciding which instrument you may want to learn to play. Considering the sizeable investment of time, energy and money that can go into learning a musical instrument, it is not something that we just want to leap blindly into.
A little thought, care and consideration will help to smooth our way and save a lot of expense and frustration later down the line.
There are many benefits when it comes to choosing the flute as your instrument. Some of the more general ones may include such considerations as;
It has a lovely tone.
- There are many delightful tunes composed for the flute.
- It is very light and portable to carry around and travel with.
- There is a lot of chamber music available which includes flute.
- It is a very versatile instrument and can easily blend in with other instruments or take centre stage in solo performances.
- It is a truly universal instrument and is found in one form or another all over the globe.
The above advantages are very general ones, but let me go through a few of the more specific benefits of learning to play the flute.
As I have mentioned in another post, some very specific benefits in learning to play the flute include;
- Developing motor co-ordination.
- Listening Skills.
- Reading Skills.
- Concentration.
- Ability to work as part of a group or team.
- Capacity for increased self expression.
- Helps to develop good breathing habits.
- Helps to develop good postural habits.
This by no means covers all of the considerations for choosing a flute over another instrument but it is hard to find reasons that are not positive when it comes to learning this particular instrument.
